Overview
NEF Scholarships support nursing study at the Master's and Doctoral levels.
Eligibility — Required for all applicants
- Hold a current RN license or registration issued by any U.S. state; the license must show a valid (current) expiration date.
- Maintain active membership in a national nursing professional organization (for example, the American Nurses Association), a specialty nursing organization, or evidence of membership in an international nursing honor society (e.g., Sigma Theta Tau). Applicants will be required to upload a copy of their membership card.
- Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency by submitting one of the following documents (showing current expiration where applicable):
- United States passport (biographic page) with current expiration date
- Birth certificate
- USCIS Naturalization Certificate
- Permanent Resident (Green) Card with current expiration date
Degree-specific eligibility
Master’s applicants
- Must have completed a baccalaureate degree in nursing (or meet the equivalent requirement for entry-level Master’s programs).
- Must be enrolled (full- or part-time) in a professionally accredited nursing program.
- Must have completed at least 12 graded credits in the Master’s program at the time the application is submitted. (Credits awarded as pass/fail or “satisfactory” are not counted.)
- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6.
Doctoral applicants (PhD, DNP, DNAP, EdD)
- Must have completed both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.
- Must be enrolled (full- or part-time) in a professionally accredited nursing doctoral program.
- Must have completed at least 12 graded credits in the doctoral program when applying. (Pass/fail and satisfactory credits are excluded.)
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.6.
Accelerated BSN-to-Doctoral applicants (PhD, DNP, DNAP, EdD) — including students without a nursing master’s
- Must be enrolled (full- or part-time) in a professionally accredited nursing doctoral program.
- Must have completed at least 45 graded credits in the program at the time of application. (Pass/fail and satisfactory credits are not counted.)
- Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.6.
Note: Graded credit requirements exclude pass/fail or satisfactory/unsatisfactory course credits. Applicants should be prepared to upload requested documentation (license, membership card, and proof of citizenship/residency).
