History of the Award

Description: The Letitia Moore Charitable Trust Scholarship was established in 2009 by the York Art Association from a bequest by the late artist and YAA member Letitia Moore. The scholarship honors Moore’s intent to provide tuition support to deserving students pursuing art or art history. Administration and selection are handled by the York Art Association.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and must be majoring in art or art history. Candidates are required to have completed their first year of study and to have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the prior year. Trustees of the York Art Association, their family members, and designees who make candidate recommendations are not eligible to participate. Applicants must meet all institutional enrollment and major requirements at the time of application.

How to Apply

Application Requirements: Submit an application letter that describes your educational and career goals and explains why you are a deserving candidate. Include two or three letters of reference with names and phone numbers for references familiar with your ability and aspirations. Provide an official transcript demonstrating enrollment beyond the first year, declared major in art or art history, and a prior-year GPA of at least 3.0. If the institution does not use a GPA system, a letter from the department chair or academic advisor indicating the student’s good standing may be submitted instead.

Award and Payment

Award Value: Scholarship amounts are determined at the discretion of the YAA executive and scholarship committees. Awards are restricted to tuition and will be paid directly to the recipient’s college or university. The committee determines individual award sizes based on available funds and applicant qualifications.
