John D. Grubb and Louise G. Sumner Scholarship

Overview and origin
Founded in 1999 by John D. Grubb and Louise G. Sumner, this fund was created to provide scholarship support originally for Hiwassee students and Hiwassee alumni who were pursuing a four-year college or university education. The scope of the award has since been broadened: recipients may now attend any public or private, nonprofit college or university in Tennessee that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Award amount
The scholarship provides $3,000 per year for four years.
Who may apply
The John D. Grubb and Louise G. Sumner Fund for Monroe County Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled college students who graduated from a Monroe County, Tennessee high school. Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Intend to enroll full-time at a Tennessee institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
How to apply
Submit the East Tennessee Foundation Common Application between December 15 and March 15 to be considered for this scholarship and other awards.
